In the early 1980s I was teaching biology and physics in a special program for exceptional students at New Rochelle High School, New Rochelle, NY. The teachers in the program were encouraged to develop elective courses out of their own interests.
Emboldened by the philosopher Will Durant's comment that "The sciences are the windows through which philosophy sees the world" and armed with John Herman Randell's book The Making of the Modern Mind I developed Science and Philosophy out of my lifelong reading in philosophy and cosmology.
The student response exceeded my expectations. Their final papers articulating their personal world-views revealed the value of the course. It became a very popular elective.
During the years of my retirement great discoveries have been made in cosmology. Discoveries that I have followed with interest. This web site contains an expansion and modernization of the material originally presented. It is offered in the hope that it will help others formulate a coherent view of the world and of life in these times of change.
